Frequently Asked Questions – Inverter Heat Pumps
How long does installation take?
Installation for an inverter heat pump generally takes 4-6 hours, depending on the complexity of the install. Generally you don’t need to be home during installation, except if internal access is required for installing an electrical switch.
How close to the pool does the heat pump need to be?
We recommend a maximum distance of 10m from the filter system to the heat pump. Beyond this, heat losses become significant and efficiency decreases.
Is it normal for condensation to drip from the heat pump?
Yes, this is normal and nothing to be concerned about. This condensation is the same which will occur from your car air conditioning unit on a humid day leaving small water patches on the ground.
How do I prepare my heat pump for use after winter?
Firstly, check there is no debris around the unit or the water inlet pipes. If reconnecting water pipes, always ensure the flow direction is correct and all pipes are watertight. When starting the unit up ensure the desired temperature is set and remember to run the filter system for two days, until the desired temperature is reached. Lastly ensure the heat pump switches off automatically when the filter pump is switched off.
I switched the heating on 24 hours ago and my pool isn’t at temperature yet?
Inverter heat pumps are designed to heat your pool more slowly than gas heaters, but once at temperature they maintain temperature incredibly efficiently. For this reason it can take a few days to reach the desired temperature, but once it is reached, the temperature will be maintained perfectly so you have a warm heated pool all the time.
Is a heat pump quite noisy?
There is some noise associated with a heat pump but it is not significant. This is due to utilising the latest technology in ventilation which keeps noise levels low. It is recommended not to install a heat pump within 5m of noise sensitive areas.
Do I need to prepare my heat pump for winter?
There are a few step required to prepare your heat pump when it isn’t in use over winter. In cold climates to avoid ice formation damaging the water pipes we recommend to drain the heat exchanger. This is achieved by removing the water connections and allowing the pool water system to bypass the unit. It is also recommended to place a cover over the unit during long periods when it isn’t in use.
How do I maintain my heat pump?
Just like any piece of equipment, we recommend to give the heat pump a good wash annually with a low pressure cleaner (being mindful to avoid damaging the fins). Before switching the unit back on again, call your local pool specialist to have electrical connections checked and ensure all safety devices are working normally.

Frequently Asked Questions – Pool Covers
What type of pool cover should I get?
The type of pool cover that is suited for a specific pool depends on a few factors, namely whether the pool is heated and how often the pool is used. There are two main types of pool covers being Thermal covers and Solar Blanket (Bubble) covers. If your pool has an external heat source, a Thermal cover is the way to go as these retain heat exceptionally well and will reduce operating costs. If you plan to heat your pool from the sun alone, a Solar Blanket cover is the way to go. Solar Blanket covers allow solar radiation in and use a bubble layer of trapped air to retain the heat gained throughout the day.
The second factor is the thickness of the pool cover, which generally ranges from 250 to 600 microns. The thicker the cover, the more durable and longer lasting it will be. If you use your pool cover everyday then 600 microns is a great option, as it will wear much better. For those that only use the pool a few times a week 300-500 microns will do a great job at a slightly reduced price.
Can I install the pool cover myself or do I need professional installation?
All covers are incredibly easy to install and require no prior experience. In the event you would prefer a bit of extra assistance we are always available to help.
What are the benefits of having a pool cover?
There are many benefits for having a pool cover. A few of the main ones are significantly reduced water consumption as evaporation is almost completely eliminated. Keep in mind evaporation is by far the greatest cause of heat loss from a swimming pool so your pool will be much warmer also, not to mention significantly cleaner with much less debris and cleaning required. Chemical usage generally drops a lot too as there isn’t the same amount of water to be replenished once evaporation isn’t an issue.
Do I need a pool cover reel?
A pool reel is a great option to simplify removing and fitting a pool cover, leaving you more time to enjoy relaxing. Pool cover reels also increase the lifespan of your pool cover by minimising damage and wear.
How much does a pool cover cost?
The price of pool covers starts at $34 per square metre for a Bubble cover, with prices increasing for Thermal covers. Keep in mind pool covers have a significant life period and are a crucial investment to protect your pool and reduce running costs. Many people save significant amounts of water and also use their pool more often as it is generally warmer.
How long do pool covers typically last?
All our pool covers come with a full 3-year warranty but generally have a service life in excess of 6 years. It really depends on the environment and how often the cover is installed and removed. It isn’t unheard of for covers to last close to 10 years which makes a cover an incredibly cheap, cost effective investment.
Will a pool cover fit my pool size and shape?
Our team are available for no obligation free measurements and can manufacture a cover to suit any pool shape possible. When we visit we will discuss certain aspects such as whether the pool cover extends to the pool walls or if a gap is left to ease removing the pool cover when overhanging tiles are present. We can find a solution that works for your specific situation.
Will a pool cover help save on heating and maintenance costs?
Definitely. As mentioned there are significant benefits of having a pool cover. If you use an external heating source such as an inverter heat pump or roof solar system, a thermal pool cover really is a must to minimise operating costs.
What type of pool cover reel would suit my pool?
We sell a wide range of pool cover reels to suit every situation and style, from entry level residential reels to heavy duty commercial applications. All our reels come with a 3-year warranty.
How much does a pool cover reel cost?
Pool cover reels are usually much more cost efficient than people think, with entry level high quality reels starting around the $1000 mark. The cost depends on the width of the pool and the amount of usage, for school pools and commercial applications heavy duty reels are sometimes required.
